Bring a Roper Mountain science lesson directly to your site. Our public outreach programs are perfect for family audiences, afterschool groups, evening events at schools, summer camps, community centers and more. We will travel anywhere within a two and a half hour drive of Greenville, SC. Choose from three Science on Wheels lesson formats:
Outreach Assemblies - Available at reduced capacity
Our assemblies are designed for audiences of up to 200 per session, and are great for a wide range of ages.
Virtual Science on Wheels - Available while COVID19 precautions are still in place
Virtually connect with instructors at Roper Mountain for a science program just for your site. Choose from several program options. These programs can be either a direct connection with one location (point to point) or a multipoint connection with many individuals connecting from their homes.
Starlab Portable Planetarium - NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE
The Starlab brings the night sky to your site. It is designed for groups of 25 or fewer per session and requires a room with 12’ ceilings. Due to social distancing requirements, the Starlab is not currently available until further notice.
Outreach Workshops - Available for Some Venues
Workshop programs are hands-on programs for groups of up to 24 participants. Due to social distancing requirements, Workshop programs are not currently available until further notice.

Science on Wheels Scholarships Available!

Roper Mountain has received a generous grant from Lockheed Martin to fund Science on Wheels programming for schools and community organizations in Greenville County serving low-income communities. Greenville County schools serving communities with a poverty level of 60% or higher and Greenville County community centers are pre-qualified to receive these scholarships within reasonable limits. Prequalified groups just need to mention that they would like to use the grant money to cover their reservation at the time that they make the reservation request. Community organizations such as libraries, after school programs, summer camps, and day cares in Greenville County who believe they should qualify, may apply for the funding. Contact the Outreach Specialist, Jennifer Romatelli, jromatelli@greenville.k12.sc.us or 864.355.8940, for details.
