Leave a Legacy

“All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine.”—Jim Rohn

You can create a lasting charitable legacy to ensure that Roper Mountain Science Center will continue to make a positive impact on the next generation and help us fulfill our mission to ignite the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world. There are a number of ways you can make a lasting impact:

Bequests are one of the easiest ways to give to Roper Mountain because donors retain complete control over the assets during their lifetime. Bequests may be made as an unrestricted gift to the Roper Mountain Science Center Association to be used as directed by the Board, or as a designated gift for specific programs or projects on the Mountain. Gifts can be cash or other assets such as property or stock. Or, you can designate RMSC the owner and irrevocable beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

IRAs and Retirement Plans are two of the best ways to leave a legacy because there is no estate tax or income tax due as the gift will qualify for a charitable deduction. The donor retains access to all the funds during their lifetime. Like bequests, donations may be made as an unrestricted gift, or designated for a specific project or program.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from your IRA is one way to support Roper Mountain while you are still living. QCDs are a direct transfer from your IRA to the Roper Mountain Science Center Association and can be designated for a specific program and project, or can be utilize to meet future needs.

We recommend that you meet with your financial advisor to decide if one of these options is best for you, or if there are other ways you can leave a lasting impact through a gift to the Roper Mountain Science Center. If you have questions about these opportunities, please contact Phyllis Henderson at 864-355-8915 or via email at pjhenderson@greenville.k12.sc.us.
