BLAST! Program

Blast Program

The BLAST! Program is an exciting after-school enrichment program taught by Roper Mountain instructors at area elementary schools. Small class sizes and activity driven curriculum make for a fantastic hands-on learning experience for students. Topics include robotics and computer programming. For information, contact the Outreach Specialist, Jennifer Romatelli, at jromatelli@greenville.k12.sc.us or 864.355.8940.

How It Works

If your school schedules a BLAST! class, we will send an educator with equipment to your school to teach the class (see scheduling information below). Your school must provide a space for the class, and computers as necessary for the class you are requesting. Also, we will have the district install our software on the computers we will be using for the class. Roper Mountain will provide a flyer file to your school to advertise the class, and we will schedule online registration for a specific time and date on our website. Families will go to the website at that time to register and pay for the class. All proceeds will go to Roper Mountain.

If you would like to schedule a BLAST! class at your school, contact us and tell us the following information (note: you must have permission from the school principal to request a BLAST! class):

Once we get your request, we will check to see if the class you requested and an instructor are available for your requested dates. We will get back to you within 5 business days to either confirm your request or try and schedule alternate dates if we cannot meet your original request. Please submit requests a minimum of 45 days prior to your requested dates to allow time for registration.

Scheduling Information

BLAST! classes take place after school starting at your school’s dismissal time. Depending on the class you choose, each class session will be anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours long. Classes are either 4 or 5 class sessions long.

Your school can request a class for any dates that you choose, however we recommend scheduling the class sessions for the same day of the week, over consecutive weeks. For example if you choose a class that is 4 weeks long, you could chose to have the classes take place on Tuesdays after school for 4 consecutive weeks.

Make sure to check your school’s calendar to be certain you don’t request dates that conflict with activities for the school such as evening events, field trips, or teacher work days.
